4.0 out of 5 stars RP1000...A powerhouse of tone, April 2, 2010

This review is from: DigiTech RP1000 Integrated-Effects Switching System (Electronics)
Here is my review of this Multi-effects/amp-modeling/integrated switching system. I have been playing guitar for well over 10 years and have a decent amount of experience with Multi-effects units. I own the Digitech GNX4 and an earlier model BOSS unit with the COSM modeling. I have provided my rating for each individual aspect of the unit and also some comparison with the Boss GT 10, which I think is the only real competitor for this kind of unit and price point.

Effects: Almost all of the effects range from good to excellent. The only one that's actually bad is the harmonizer. Its almost useless. I have GNX4 from 5 years ago and the harmonizer on that is excellent. So this is definitely a step backwards. There is a way to get around it by adding a harmonizer pedal ($200+) into the stomp loop. But come on Digitech, why should I have spend that extra $200? FIX THE DAMN HARMONIZER PLEASE. Also, in the GNX4, you could run Whammy/Harmonizer and effects like chorus/flanger etc... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for people who love their amp's tone!, November 9, 2009
This review is from: DigiTech RP1000 Integrated-Effects Switching System (Electronics)
I've been using Digitech RP products off and on for nearly 15 years. I bought the RP1000 because it is the best, most accessible, all-in-one solution for guitarists who love their amp's tone but just need to add the right effects at the right point in the signal path.

The RP allows me to place effects, like wah, compression, overdrives, pitch shifting, and phaser effects, which typically sound best in front of the amp, in the right place in the effect chain, and add the rest of the staple effects like chorus, delay, and reverb, in my amp's effects loop.

Without exaggeration it took me all of 5 minutes to connect it to my amp, a Mesa/Boogie Mark IV, using what some people call the '4 cable method,' bypass the RP amp/cabinet models, dial in a really good overdrive sound to boost my amp's front end, and a sweet analog sounding delay with a small amount of reverb in the loop. The effects sounded amazing on all three amp channels. The Wah effects are phenomenal, and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Amp and Effect Modeling that is Flawless!, February 3, 2011
This review is from: DigiTech RP1000 Integrated-Effects Switching System (Electronics)
I've been playing professionally for about 40+ years, and currently work as a single with pre-recorded tracks. I needed a solution that would give me accurate modeling through my PA system. The RP1000 exceeded all of my expectations!
Just to qualify myself here, I've used nothing but tube amplifiers my whole life. Mostly blackface Fenders. I tried out the unit extensively trying to find a flaw, and I couldn't!
When plugged directly into one of my Behringer powered speakers, (B215D, about 550 watts each) the amp emulator is downright scary good. Close your eyes, and I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between the emulators and the real thing.
I use a lot of vintage effects, so I did some A-B comparisons between the on-board emulators and the actual effects. They were indistinguishable! And the Stomp -loop allows me to add my old effects to the existing set-up. For me, this is a great advantage as it allows me to stack my distortion boxes the way I always... Read more
